Helping The Less Fortunate In Afghanistan
By Karina Rusk
Rosemary Stasek is one of those people among us who has moved from words and concern to action.
The instability she sees in Afghanistan is only matched by the determination she sees in the majority of people to live in a state of peace.
She believes her work and that of her non-profit are helping to build a better future. Many of the women she has engaged have lived their entire lives in a state of war. Rosemary says they are focused and dedicated to making sure their children’s lives are better. They are eager for education, new skills and resources to improve the infrastructure of their country. She is working at a grassroots level, connecting with many of the people and areas that the big organizations don’t reach. Every donated dollar is funneled to projects. She says there are no salaries or overhead and the money is accounted for on her website.
Afghanistan is still a war zone and so she says she lives her life in two modes. She wants to be there long enough to accomplish things and witness the transformation. She also lives with her suitcase packed. She says at any moment foreigners like her could get a phone call telling them the danger is too great and to get on a place to go home.
For Rosemary, that call would present a problem because for now, Kabul is home. You can learn more by visiting www.stasek.com/alittlehelp
